Sheweth as follows! –

1. Your Petitioner Samuel James Clarke entered the Colonial Service as a Police Constable at Hongkong in October 1899 and has now eighteen and a half years service: Your petitioner was promoted to be Full Sergeant on 25th June, 1908, and was transferred to the post of Revenue Officer on 1st., January,

1910.

2. Your Petitioner Louis Alfred Langley entered the Colonial Service as Police Constable at Hongkong in July, 1905, and has now nearly twelve years service: Your petitioner was promoted to be Acting Lance Sergeant in April, 1910, and on 11th May, 1910 was transferred to the post of Revenue Officer.

In 1913 or thereabouts a number of the subordinate officers of Hongkong Civil Service submitted a petition for quarters' allowance on the ground of the extraordinarily high rentals prevailing in Hongkong, and quarters or allowance in lieu thereof were subsequently granted to all the subordinate

officers.

Your Petitioners were provided with quarters on 1st May 1914, similarly to other subordinate officers.
